EXISTENTIAL PSYCHOTHERAPY

Rethink Your Self for
a More Meaningful Life
In a busy world full of demands, it's hard to stop and think about what we want our lives to be about. We have never been more connected, while at the same time we can feel very disconnected. It’s easy to overlook life being all about relationships – not just with friends, families and partners but with ourselves too – and therapy is about taking time to build an understanding relationship with yourself as well as others.
‘Rethink Your Self’ is an invitation for us to do just that together – to look beyond the headline symptoms of your problems, be they anxiety, stress, unhappiness or feelings of not being at ease, and work to discover your own right answers rather than taking someone else’s.
What is existential psychotherapy?
Existential therapy helps people who feel something is wrong in their lives but often can't quite name what it is or what needs to change. It's not about diagnosing, labelling or pre-supposing there is a right answer or way to be, but is about exploring profound issues such as meaning, choice, identity, spirituality, aspirations and the finite nature of life. It is a deeply personal and philosophical approach that considers the 'givens' of our lives that we can’t change, those areas where we do have the freedom to choose, and the need to take responsibility for our decisions. There are no pre-determined outcomes, only those changes you choose to make for yourself along the way.
Taking an open-ended, person-centred and client-led approach means that we would focus on your unique experiences and challenges and work at your pace for as long as you want. This might be a case of sharing your worries or experiences for the first time without judgement while you make sense of what is happening in your life. Or it might involve reflecting deeply on who and how you are, and what you want the rest of your life to be about.
Together we’d work towards uncovering your own choices and responses to your challenges, so you can live a more authentic and fulfilling life that feels right for you.
Who is it for?
Existential psychotherapy is suitable for anyone who faces difficulties in life and feels ready to pause and reflect on their experiences, explore deeper aspects of their identity, and what the future looks like for them.
Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed at work, experiencing relationship challenges, navigating a time of great change or loss, questioning their identity, sexuality or place in the world, or dealing with uncomfortable feelings and emotions. Some clients have worked with a therapist in the past and for others it may be the first time.
Issues I can help with include:
Addiction & Substance Abuse | Anxiety | Depression | Existential Crisis | Grief & Loss | Identity | Illness | Mortality | Relationships with Others | Self-Esteem | Shame | Spiritual Concerns | Workplace Difficulties
No matter what your specific challenges, existential psychotherapy can provide a safe and supportive space for finding ways to deal with your problems and navigate your life with greater clarity and purpose.
